Excavations taken out on the acropolis of Ancient Corinth have proved that some parts go back to ancient Greek and Roman times.
At the foot of the huge rock you will find the settlement of Ancient Corinth.
Transporting goods across the isthmus close by provided the shortest route from the eastern Mediterranean to the Adriatic and Italy leading to Corinth’s prosperity from its position on the narrow sea pass between the Saronic and Corinthian gulfs.
Excavations have revealed the vast extent of the city which was destroyed in Byzantine times by earthquakes.
